The LSCU & Affiliates offices will be closed on Wednesday in observance of Veteran’s Day. eSignal Daily will also take the day off and return on Thursday. The League’s Birmingham and Tallahassee offices will re-open on Thursday for normal business hours.

Veteran’s Day is celebrated every Nov. 11. This day was chosen after the fighting ceased in World War I following a temporary cease fire between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. On May 13, 1938, Nov. 11 became a legal holiday every year. It was dedicated to world peace and it was known as “Armistice Day.”

Following World War II, new legislation passed to make “Veteran’s Day” a day to honor American veterans of all wars. An Alabama veteran led the charge to make the day a national holiday. He led Alabama in the first state celebration in 1947.
