After 35 years of dedicated service to the Virginia credit union system, we are honored to recognize and celebrate the retirement of David Deacon, whose career has been defined by service, partnership, and a deep commitment to helping credit unions succeed.
David began his credit union career in September 1991 with Virginia League Central Credit Union, where he served as Lending and Collections Manager. In that role, he oversaw the credit union’s lending and collections functions and built a strong foundation in credit union operations and member service.
In March 1997, he joined Virginia Credit Union Services, Inc., where he would go on to serve credit unions for more than two decades in a variety of leadership roles, including Director of Credit Union Services, Director of EFT Services, and Business Development. During that time, he played an important role in helping credit unions launch and grow share draft, debit card, and credit card programs. He also worked closely with credit unions on payment strategy, debit and credit card portfolio development, shared branching, and services provided through key partners including Credit Union 24/Culiance, Fiserv, and FIS.
In January 2021, David was named Vice President of Virginia Credit Union Services, Inc., where he managed the Virginia League’s service corporation, including strategic partnerships and education and professional development offerings. He also served as Executive Vice President of the Credit Union Service Company of Virginia, LLC, supporting shared branching programs in Virginia and South Carolina, as well as one stand-alone branch through December 2025.
Following the formation of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, David continued his service as Vice President of Virginia Business Development with LEVERAGE. In this role, he helped expand products and services into the Virginia market, continuing his long-standing focus on connecting credit unions with solutions that support their growth, operations, and service to members.
Over the course of his career, David has been a trusted partner to credit unions across Virginia and beyond. His work has touched nearly every part of the service corporation landscape, from payments and shared branching to strategic partnerships, business development, and professional education. His knowledge, relationships, and steady commitment have left a lasting mark on the credit union movement. As of his retirement, David will have served 35 years and 14 days in support of Virginia credit unions.
Please join us in congratulating David on an incredible career and thanking him for his many years of service, leadership, and dedication to the credit union mission. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.
