Advocacy Update: Hike the Hill and Government Shutdown Preparedness

September was a strong month for advocacy as credit union leaders joined us in Washington, D.C. for Hike the Hill. Together, we advanced key priorities including protecting the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, supporting credit union–friendly amendments in the National Defense Authorization Act, and advocating for Currency Transaction Report (CTR) modernization, the Taskforce for Recognizing and Averting Payment Scams (TRAPS) Act, and Veterans Member Business Lending (MBL). You can find the report on lawmakers who have championed our issues so far here.

As Congress faces a funding deadline, the likelihood of a government shutdown remains high. Credit unions play a critical role during these times, from assisting federal employees to supporting members who may face delays in benefits. If your credit union is offering special programs or resources to assist members during a potential shutdown, please let us know so we can share these efforts with lawmakers.
