adminIn Alabama, Judge Roy Moore won the Republican Party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate yesterday by defeating Sen. Luther Strange in the hotly contested Special GOP Primary Runoff. Moore, who previously served as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, received 55 percent of the vote to Sen. Strange’s 45 percent. Sen. Strange was appointed to the Senate by then-Gov. Robert Bentley when Sen. Jeff Sessions was confirmed as U.S. Attorney General.
Moore now moves to the general election against Democratic candidate Doug Jones, a former U.S. Attorney. Jones won his party’s primary without a runoff in August.
The general election will take place on Dec. 12, with the winner serving until 2020.
