The League, alongside member credit unions, is proud to launch F.I.G.H.T. – Financial Institutions Against Human Trafficking. This bold new initiative brings together the strength of credit unions, banks, and others in the financial industry to combat one of the most urgent human rights issues of our time: human trafficking.
Our mission is to unite people and resources to fight human trafficking and transform lives by creating innovative pathways to financial freedom. This effort goes beyond simply filing suspicious activity reports or checking boxes—we aim to empower financial institutions with the training, resources, and connections needed to make a real difference in disrupting crime and supporting survivors.
Just last week, Florida State Senator Jonathan Martin (partnering with The League) introduced a resolution, Senate Resolution 1880, calling for action. We look forward to partnering with the Florida Legislature and other stakeholders to tackle this issue across our four-state footprint and beyond.
Our Goals:
- An Industry-Wide Commitment: Build a strong coalition of credit unions, banks, and financial institutions focused on training, awareness, and meaningful action.
- Identify and Document Practices: Evaluate and enhance current detection and reporting efforts across the financial industry.
- Strengthen Law Enforcement Partnerships: Deepen collaboration and intelligence-sharing with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Expand Survivor Support: Equip financial institutions to provide trauma-informed financial services and tools that help survivors regain independence and stability.
Human trafficking takes many forms and often goes unnoticed, affecting individuals across all walks of life. It generates more than $150 billion annually, much of which flows through the global financial system. With our industry’s unique position and expertise in detecting illicit activity, we have the power—and responsibility—to disrupt these networks. F.I.G.H.T. is more than a call to action. It’s the beginning of a coordinated undertaking. Working together, financial institutions can serve as the frontline defense in the fight for human dignity and freedom.
