The Credit Union Impact Foundation recently hosted the 2025 Principles and Philosophy Conference at Georgia United Credit Union in Duluth, Georgia, bringing together 39 professionals from across the movement to reconnect with the values that define credit unions.
Throughout the three-day experience, attendees explored the cooperative principles through interactive learning and reflection led by League facilitators Bobbi Grady and Tobi Weingart. One of the most impactful sessions was the poverty simulation, facilitated by Lauren Whaley of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation and Emily Nail of the Coastal Credit Union Foundation. The exercise offered participants a firsthand look at the challenges faced by individuals and families living paycheck to paycheck, deepening understanding of how credit unions can make meaningful change through empathy and action.
The conference also featured sessions on the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) framework, mindfulness, and wellness, closing with remarks from Georgia United Credit Union CEO Debbie Smith and a celebration of participants’ commitment to the credit union mission. The Foundation extends its gratitude to everyone who joined this year’s event and helped make it a truly transformative experience.
