We are proud to honor the legacy of Guy Hood, whose visionary leadership played a pivotal role in the consolidation of the Florida and Alabama Credit Union Leagues. The consolidation, formally announced in June as a model to “create economic efficiencies,” was well on track in 2009, with board approval expected at meetings the following month. This was a critical step in creating a more unified and efficient structure for the credit union movement in both states.
Guy, who was slated to retire on December 31, 2008, agreed to extend his leadership through June 2009 to ensure a smooth transition. His dedication was key to the successful merger, which would incorporate a new entity with a new name and marketing brand, while maintaining legislative and advocacy presence in both state capitals. The consolidated firm, with its headquarters potentially in Florida, would build upon the strong foundation laid by Guy, setting a precedent for future collaboration among credit union leagues in the region.
Guy’s leadership during this transformative time, along with his unwavering commitment to the credit union movement, has left a lasting impact. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Sandra, and the Hood family. In honoring Guy’s wishes, there will be no formal service, though a future gathering may take place to celebrate his life.
