It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Duane Ernest Berreth, 81, of Palm Coast, Florida. Surrounded by his loving family, Duane passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2025.
Duane had a distinguished career in the credit union industry, retiring in 1998 as CEO of Compass Financial Federal Credit Union in Hialeah, Florida. Throughout his tenure, Duane played an instrumental role in shaping the success of the credit union, contributing his leadership and expertise to the financial community.
Originally from Groton, South Dakota, Duane served as an Army captain during the Vietnam War before transitioning to a career in finance. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Duane was deeply committed to his faith and his community. He served in many ministries, including Kairos, Prisons, 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Grand Knight, St. Vincent de Paul, Respect Life, Alpha Women’s Club, and Bread of Life.
A devoted family man, Duane was a loving husband to Janice Marie and a proud father to his children, Daniel in Texas and Diana in Colorado. He settled in Palm Coast near his daughter, Janine, and son-in-law, Keith, as well as his son Joseph, and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alpha Women’s Center in Palm Coast, Florida.
Duane’s legacy of service and leadership will be remembered by all who knew him, both within the credit union industry and his broader community.
