More than $48,000 Awarded to Local Teachers

Each fall, local teachers are invited to apply for a classroom grant from Blue Eagle ® Credit Union, in Roanoke, Virginia. This year, 12 local teachers received a grant to aid in needed creative learning materials and/or programs. “On average, teachers spend $500 annually out of their own pockets for classroom supplies and projects. With education being one of our core values at Blue Eagle ® Credit Union, our team understands the importance of creating a learning environment that sets students up for success,” said Senior Brand Specialist at Blue Eagle ® Credit Union, Laurissa Thompson shared. “We’re thrilled to announce the 2024 recipients who received a grant just before the holidays.”

  • Wendy Niday – Herman L. Horn Elementary School
  • Stuart Rawlings – Cave Spring Middle School
  • Jeremiah Riesenbeck – Patrick Henry High School
  • Wendy Stone – Glenvar High School
  • Neil Swanson – Glenvar High School

“Blue Eagle ® Credit Union team members can opt to wear jeans on Fridays for a $2 donation to their Teacher Grant Program. That small donation each week adds up. Since 2016, this fully staff-funded program has awarded more than $48,000 in grants to 105 local teachers,” Thompson said.

The most recent grants awarded will be used for a variety of creative learning initiatives including a rocketry club, automatic night lights, calm corners, an engineering center, 18th century apple cider production, and more!
