Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet on Tuesday hired Ronald Rubin as commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation (OFR). Rubin has been an enforcement attorney for the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and worked at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Rubin’s hire comes after the former OFR Commissioner, Drew Breakspear, quit last June. The only other finalist considered for the job was former OFR longtime employee, Linda Charity.

During his interview, Rubin touched on the need for the cannabis industry to have banking services, his reluctance to support the use of cryptocurrency and the need for smarter, not more, regulations.

The League has reached out to the OFR to set up a meeting with Rubin. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to  Jared Ross, LSCU senior VP, association services and governmental affairs.
