At the 2025 Government Affairs Conference (GAC) hosted by America’s Credit Unions (ACU), The League was actively involved in several key regulatory discussions that matter most to our members.
Our members had the opportunity to meet with National Credit Union Association (NCUA) Chairman Kyle Hauptman and NCUA Board Member Tanya Otsuka, where they discussed critical issues facing credit unions. Additionally, The League had the unique honor of presenting a special session with Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund Director Pravina Raghavan—the only credit union league or association to secure such an audience at the conference. We also hosted a regulatory panel with National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) and ACU.
In the session with CDFI Fund Director Raghavan, we were joined by CDFI-certified credit union leaders Amanda Habanksy, President and CEO of Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union, and Paul Phillips, President and CEO of Freedom First Federal Credit Union, with League President Samantha Beeler moderating. The discussion covered a variety of topics, including innovative uses of CDFI funds by credit unions, the updated application process, affordable housing programs, and what’s coming in 2025. Director Raghavan highlighted the impact of credit unions, sharing that nearly 500 are now CDFI-certified, with 46% of CDFI funds flowing through credit unions, including more than 50 across our footprint.
Members were delighted to meet again with Chairman Hauptman and Board Member Otsuka. Chairman Hauptman’s announcement to stop publishing overdraft and Non-Sufficient Fund (NSF) data from individual credit unions was well-received, as it represents a practical approach to NCUA regulation. Members also valued Board Member Otsuka’s continued support for small credit unions and her steadfast commitment to maintaining an independent regulator for the credit union sector.
The League extends its sincere thanks to all those who participated in this year’s regulatory sessions. We look forward to continuing this important work and seeing you at GAC in 2026!
