In this edition of the Insider, The League honors longtime businessman and credit union champion, Representative Buddy Carter.

Before being elected to represent Georgia’s 1st Congressional District in 2015, the Congressman owned a local pharmacy, served as Mayor of Pooler, Georgia, and was a member of the Georgia State Senate from 2009 to 2014.
Since entering the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Carter has consistently supported credit unions and their efforts to serve communities across Georgia. The League is grateful for his support, including his signing the “No New Tax” pledge, co-sponsoring the Credit Union Board Modernization Act, and advocating for Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) funding. Representative Carter is also a co-sponsor of H.R. 1799, legislation that would modernize Currency Transaction Report (CTR) and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) reporting thresholds.
In honor of his longstanding support, The League recognized Representative Carter as the 2021 Lawmaker of the Year. We look forward to continuing to work with him on key financial issues affecting Georgians.
