Credit Unions Unite at the Georgia Advocacy Summit

Credit unions from across Georgia gathered in Atlanta on February 2 – 4, for the Georgia Credit Union Association’s Georgia Advocacy Summit, coming together to engage with lawmakers and advance key priorities during the Georgia General Assembly session.

This year’s Summit brought together 101 attendees, representing credit unions from across the state, who convened to share the credit union difference with policymakers at the Georgia State Capitol. Participants engaged in advocacy-focused programming designed to strengthen their understanding of legislative issues impacting credit unions and the members they serve.

Notable attendees included Speaker of the House Jon Burns, Commissioner Bo Fears, and Senator Harold Jones. Members of The League’s advocacy team also led sessions focused on current policy priorities, emerging legislative trends, and effective strategies for engaging with lawmakers throughout the session.

“Credit unions used this Summit to engage lawmakers on preserving the payments system, strengthening fraud protections, protecting risk-based decision-making, modernizing auto titling, and improving the operating environment for Georgia credit unions,” said Taylor Morison, Senior Director of Governmental Affairs for the Georgia Credit Union Association at The League. “Advancing these priorities is critical to protecting consumers, reducing financial crime, and ensuring credit unions can continue serving members and communities across Georgia.”

By expanding the Summit to include three-day programming, the Georgia Credit Union Association was able to dedicate additional time to advocacy training, issue education, and celebrating recent legislative and advocacy accomplishments. Attendees left better equipped to represent their credit unions and advocate on behalf of their members at the state level.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year’s Georgia’s Advocacy Summit,” said Mindi Greenland, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Member Impact at Georgia United Credit Union. “Having direct conversations with lawmakers about the real impact credit unions have on our members and communities reinforces why advocacy matters. This Summit gave me the tools and resources to continue those conversations throughout the legislative session.”

The Georgia Credit Union Association also extends its gratitude to the system partners who helped make the Georgia Advocacy Summit possible, including TruStage, whose support continues to strengthen advocacy efforts across the credit union movement.
