Lawmakers Rally Behind Community Development Financial Institutions Fund During Government Shutdown

As the federal government shutdown continues to disrupt agency operations, The League has secured support from several lawmakers across our footprint to stand up for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.

A Republican-led, bicameral letter spearheaded by Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Representative Young Kim (R-CA) calls on the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Office of Management and Budget to reverse the CDFI Fund’s planned reduction in force and restore vital staffing.

From within our footprint, support came from Senator Katie Britt (AL) and Representatives Buddy Carter (GA-1); María Elvira Salazar (FL-27); Robert B. Aderholt (AL-4); Mike Collins of (GA-10); Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-26); Rich McCormick (GA-7); Mike Rogers (AL-3); John Rutherford (FL-5); Dale W. Strong (AL-5); and Vern Buchanan (FL-16).

The League continues to monitor the broader implications of the shutdown, as Office of Management (OMB) and Budget Director Russell Vought have also announced plans to close the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in the coming months.
