October is a special time for our movement. Across the country and around the world, credit unions come together to recognize International Credit Union Day on October 16. This year, The League is dedicating the entire month of October to celebrating the Credit Union Difference, and we invite you to join us.
Why We Celebrate
International Credit Union Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a chance to reflect on what makes credit unions unique. Guided by cooperative principles and committed to people over profit, credit unions measure success by the financial well-being of members and the health of their communities. That difference is worth celebrating.
Advocacy for the Future
October is also about looking ahead. A strong future for credit unions depends on effective advocacy that ensures policymakers understand our mission and support legislation that enables us to serve members better. This month, The League is launching a Political Action Campaign (PAC) campaign where every contribution, no matter the size, strengthens our collective voice and protects the Credit Union Difference.
Share Your Story
Credit unions create meaningful impact every day by helping families buy homes, supporting small businesses, and expanding access to affordable financial services. Throughout October, we invite you to share your credit union’s story. These stories inspire others and demonstrate to lawmakers the real-life difference credit unions make.
Engage Locally
We also encourage credit unions to reach out to mayors, city councils, or county commissions to request proclamations recognizing International Credit Union Day. Proclamations raise awareness, affirm the value of financial cooperatives, and highlight the role credit unions play in strengthening communities.
Together, let’s make October a month-long celebration of the Credit Union Difference.
