Hike the Hill Strengthens Credit Union Advocacy on Capitol Hill

Last week, credit union leaders and advocates met with more than 60 legislative offices to ensure credit unions’ voices were heard on Capitol Hill. Held in conjunction with America’s Credit Unions Congressional Caucus, 100 credit union advocates from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia rallied in Washington, D.C., to protect our position on key legislative priorities.

One of the top priorities included modernizing financial reporting thresholds, advancing veteran member business lending, working with stakeholders to protect and continue support for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, and combating fraud and payment scams. With Congress facing a tight deadline to fund the government before the end of the month, and with negotiations on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) underway, credit unions held timely, productive conversations that helped move the needle on these issues.

Credit unions heard from Congressman Barry Loudermilk (GA-11), the bill sponsor of modernizing financial reporting thresholds, on the passage of H.R. 1799, as well as from National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Kyle Hauptman and John Crews, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

We look forward to welcoming our credit union advocates back to Washington, D.C., for the Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), March 1–5, 2026.
