Prior to the Senate Commerce hearing on data privacy, CUNA wrote to Chairman Wicker (R-MS) and Ranking Member Cantwell (D-WA) urging Congress to set a federal data privacy standard.

CUNA applauds the committee for taking up the critical issue of data privacy and pledged to work with them to create a strong, national data privacy standard. Any serious data privacy statute should include robust data security requirements for all who hold consumer data. Unfortunately, as we have watched the debate over a federal data privacy standard develop, discussion of security requirements has been
