In Washington, both the House and Senate are in session this week. President Trump and Congressional leaders are continuing negotiations on an agreement to fund the federal government through Sept. 30, the end of fiscal year 2019.  The current Continuing Resolution funds the federal government through Feb. 15.

The House will also consider H.R. 840, the Veterans’ Access to Child Care Act.  The Senate is expected to continue its consideration of S. 1., the Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act.  In addition, the Senate may also consider S. 47, the Natural Resources Management Act and S. 311, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

In committee today, the Senate Finance Committee is expected to conduct an “Open Executive Session to Organize for the 116th Congress and to Consider Favorably Reporting Pending Nominations.”

On Wednesday, the Senate (Special Committee on) Aging will hold a full committee hearing, “Financial Security in Retirement: Innovations and Best Practices to Promote Savings;” the House Ways and Means is expected to hold a hearing on “Improving Retirement Security;”  and the Senate Banking Committee will hold a full committee executive session, “to vote on the Committee Budget Resolution, Rules of Procedure, and Subcommittee Organization and Jurisdiction for the 116th Congress.”
