Credit union advocates from all over Alabama and Florida teamed up with the LSCU & Affiliates’ Advocacy team to meet with their legislators yesterday to discuss critical industry issues.

Discussion topics included but were not limited to excessive regulatory burden, the growing need for uniform data breach standards, and ADA website lawsuits. In all, the group visited with all 38 Congressional offices.

League President/CEO Patrick La Pine stated that “Now more than ever it is crucial to stay engaged at this level.  We want to express a huge thank you to everyone who came up with us to DC this week to make sure that credit unions do not lose any momentum in this battle.”

The Legislator of the Year award for Alabama was presented to Congresswoman (R-AL2)  Martha Roby by LSCU’s Sr. Director, Governmental Affairs, Jason Cochran for her outstanding support for credit union legislation and initiatives.

Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-FL6), who has professed credit union tax exemption throughout tax reform, was named Florida Lawmaker of the Year, and the award will be  presented to him at a future date in his district.
